We are starting Nose work classes! What is Nose Work? K9 Nose Work is a fairly new recreational activity dog owners can enjoy with their canine companions. It evolved from the training professional scent detection dogs receive. Fun nose work encourages your dog’s natural drive to hunt, coupled with their special talent for picking up scents and finding their source. K9 Nose Work is great for any breed of dog who needs help building confidence, or has issues such as shyness, reactivity, or aggression.
In the class you will learn about the basic concepts in searching for odor, proper use of equipment, how to handle odor, how to make and place hides, and how to teach your dog the importance of odor obedience. You will also learn how to make the search for scent extremely important to your dog. By the end of the course, many of the dogs will be ready to compete for their ORT (odor recognition test).
Here are some benefits of K9 Nose Work:
–Dogs easily burn lots of mental and physical energy doing searches
–Searches can be done anywhere you can take your dog
–No prior training is required and no obedience is needed
–Shy or fearful dogs build up confidence and overactive dogs put their energy into fun searches
–Stronger bond between dog & handler as handler learns to observe, understand, and rely upon his dog
Our class starts Thursday January 28th from 6-7pm.
$120 for a 6 week class.
