The 4th of July is approaching quickly, and for a lot of pups around the country, this time means a lot of nervousness and anxiety. But don’t worry! By taking the proper precautions, implementing a new routine and new products into your dog’s daily life, you can help them handle their stress better and relax while we celebrate America’s independence.

As mentioned in last week’s blog, CBD treats can be an absolute GAME CHANGER for the anxious pups in your life. The first thing you’ll need to do is stop in at one of Hungry Hound’s three locations and talk to our retail staff about what products might work best for your dog. We have CBD chews, oils, soothing saucers, peanut butters… the options are endless. Pssst… Let me give you an insider tip… go get your calming products EARLY! We sell out of our calming products Every. Single. Year. Come see us soon and try out some products to see what works, what doesn’t, and what your dog prefers! We’re also closed on July 4th, so your last chance to grab anything from us would be the 3rd.

Okay. You’ve visited your nearest Hungry Hound, and had a retail team member help you pick out a calming CBD product for your pup. What now? Ideally, you should start priming your dog’s system a few days BEFORE the fireworks really start. About three days before should do the trick. Get the product in your dog’s system, give a few consistent doses and see if you notice any difference. By having the product already working in the system, distributing the dose on the 4th of July should be even more effective at keeping your dog calm. The day of the 4th (or even when you start the calmers) start altering your dog’s routine! Take your dog for a walk/play in the MORNING before the loud booms start to tire them out. Feed your dog a little bit earlier, so they have a chance to do their business uninterrupted. Pick up their food and water after this so they don’t have to worry about holding it or having to go out during the fireworks. Take them out one last time right before the fireworks should be started, somewhere between 3 and 5 pm to allow them to relax for the rest of the night.

The 4th of July can be stressful for dogs and pet parents alike, but a little bit of preparation can change the game for you and your furry friend!
