Our spring weather often brings enough rain to keep us all indoors and our winter brings enough snow to barricade us indoors. These recommendations can keep your dog in tip-top shape even during inclement weather.

TRAINING/TRICKS
Did you know that minutes of mental exercise is more exhausting that physical activity? I like make our indoor play sessions more about learning new tricks or brushing up on old ones. This is the perfect opportunity to have one-on-one time with your pooch and teach him advanced skills. You only want to do this for about 15-20 minutes, as you don’t want to wear him out. Make sure you bring along treats and reward him for his good behavior.

BRAIN GAMES
Do you have treat dispensing toy? If not, consider grabbing one. Most of the dispensing toys double as other toys: chewable bones and throwing balls. You’ll be sure to find the perfect toy for your pooch at Hungry Hound. Stimulating your dog with brain toys will give him his much needed exercise.

HIDE and SEEK
Play some scent games with your pooch. Hide some natural jerky treats throughout your house and have your dog smell them out. Each find will be a reward.

TUG of WAR
My dog just loves some tug of war! This wears him out pretty fast, and I know he loves it. He’ll play tug of war with just about any of his toys. We also have some great tug and toss toys that are perfect for indoors or out. Bionic has a tug and toss toy that is washable and it floats, so when you bring it from outdoors to inside your house, it’s just a quick wash away from being clean.

OBSTACLE COURSE
Build an obstacle course in your hallway (think a gate for large dogs or something smaller for your little guys). Toss a toy down the hall or have your pooch follow you through the course! This is great for working dogs!
