I was browsing the Honest Kitchen website when I came across some interesting information. There are two types of cinnamon and only one that is safe for dogs. Chinese Cinnamon Tree (its bark is used to make Cassia Cinnamon) which has higher levels of courmarin and could pose a potential health risk to your pooch. Ceylon cinnamon tree (its bark is used to make ceylon cinnamin) and is safe for dogs. The daily dosages are for dry powder dosages and based on pound weight:
1 – 10lbs: a small pinch up to 1/8 tsp. 10 – 20lbs: up to 1/4 tsp. 20 – 50lbs: 1/4 to 1 tsp. 50 – 100lbs: 1 to 2 tsp. Over 100lbs 2 tsp to 1 TBS.
As always start your dog off slowly and always check with you vet before starting anything new.
BENEFITS: Anti-inflammatory Slows or stops the bacteria growth Can help regulate blood sugar in diabetic dogs Can fight the fungus that causes yeast infections This is great news for dogs with allergies because pooches that are most prone to yeast infections are resistant to medication but not to cinnamon! I can’t wait to spread the news about ceylon cinnamon, but please make sure you check the label to make sure you have the right type of cinnamon. Doggies with cronic ear infections you could be on the mend!
